Bushin Jutsu – Warrior Heart Science
Welcome to BUSHIN JUTSU. We are a martial arts school with classes based in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Old school Karate Jutsu and Ryukyu Kempo is the base we work from. Understanding the use of the movements and forms of kata is our specialty.
Bunkai, – the practical use of the movements taught in kata has been overlooked for many years. Mostly it has been exchanged for competition sport.
Comprehension of the ferociousness of Karate Jutsu in close quarter combat is missing in many modern Karate traditions.
Karate Jutsu was civil self defence, and implicit in it were – standing grapples, throws, ground work (ne waza), as well as the usual Karate based punch and kick – people call it the original MMA.
Martial Science
Martial science is a huge part of what is taught at Bushin Ryu Bujutsu-kai.
The classical ideas of balance, entering and distancing are complemented by a modern understanding of movement science.
Understanding anatomy and physiology gives us great insights in to self-defence.
The use of the nervous system, bone, muscle, tendon, veins, arteries and acupuncture points were key ingredients in the old RyuKyu Martial Arts.
We aim to bring back this depth of comprehension.
Karate Jutsu
Karate is the base on which we overlay all these things.
At Bushin Ryu Bujutsu-kai we teach – health, fitness, focus, self-awareness, self-discipline, situational awareness, movement science, breathing techniques and pressure points.

We are associated with the Dragon Society International (DSI). The DSI is the premier voice for martial science world wide.

Move mindfully is coming to Bushin Jutsu
Bushin Jutsu – Move Mindfully
Move mindfully is a paid content program that is designed to get people moving.
We at Bushin Jutsu understand that people struggle to get moving.
Age, working in an office setting, sitting at a computer all day, sitting behind the wheel of a car or even working in a warehouse, we no longer move ‘properly’.
Functionality gets compromised.
Repetitive strain on any part of our bodies over a sustained period of time can cause all sorts of physical problems, stiffness, pain and various dysfunctions.
Walking into a gym can be hard, for many reasons. So Bushin Jutsu is going to offer an alternative idea – train from your home, get active where you’re comfortable
There are 3 levels of exercise program we have designed to start people back on the road to move freely.
Part 1; Just Move – very basic sets of movements that are designed to start to realign muscle, tendon and bone. Qigong.
Part 2; Move and Breathe – part 2 is a continuation of part 1 but with added complexity and body weight exercises. Qigong and meditation.
Part 3; Move with Weights – this is a big jump up. All movement practices are about functional movement. With light weights we want to add a strength element, and really correct imbalances, pain and stiffness in peoples bodies. Qigong, meditation and some precise energy practices.
